I know the drill.
Sometimes date night sounds like a good idea, but then you rationalize “we could sit here in our holey sweats, throw on some tacos, watch a little netflix and call it a date?” AKA, do the same thing night after night.
Yep, I see you.
The struggle is real.
But alas, YES, date night is a MUST!
Just ONCE a week, you gotta go for it, boo!
Levi and I have been together since 2000.. uh huh, 19 YEARS! And I can tell you, the years we didn’t date each other weren’t our best years.
So here are 7 of our FAVORITE date nights!!!
1.Catch some Live Music
We live in Nashville, so we can listen to live music at all hours of the day or night, but most cities/towns have live music at least a couple times a month. Look ahead, see what’s happening, and plan it! There’s just something about bellying up to the bar and listening to a live band that’s good for the soul and the relationship!
This is sooooo much better than vegetating in front of the TV all night! Levi and I LOVE to play games. Sitting across from each other, having fun, and laughing together is the BEST. Mastermind, Clue, and 5 second rule are some of our faves!
3.Walk around downtown
This is always such a blast! You never know what you’ll see or what you’ll end up doing. One time we ended up stopping traffic to jump in a fountain in downtown Nashville! But we’ve been known to just walk around our neighborhood for a good hour or so, too! It’s not about what you’re doing… it’s just about shaking it up and doing something different, TOGETHER!
4.Have a fiesta!
Levi and I love a good Mexican restaurant sooooo much. Chips, salsa, margaritas and we are THERE. BUT, I think the secret to a killer fiesta on date night is the authenticity. Take some time and scope out the restaurants in your area. Even if you have to try all of them once, you’re bound to find one that’s the REAL DEAL. True story: one time at our local fiesta house ALL of the staff stopped what they were doing (AKA: working) to salsa dance in the parking lot. No one cared that all of our servers and cooks weren’t working, because they were LIVING in the moment… and then, so were we!
Levi and I took up hiking years ago after we got Mya and quickly realized we needed a way to drain her energy.. but we fell in love with it! We love to get up early on a Friday or Saturday and just head into the trails. It’s quiet, you’re out in nature, the wildlife is out, there’s no cell reception, it’s just us, and it’s glorious.
We LOVE canoeing! We’ve even taken our dogs out in the canoe with us… and that was a SHOW let me tell you, but they LOVED it! I love listening to jams and working on my tan in the front, and Levi fishes and drinks beer in the back. It’s a good time. Plus there’s minimal set up (which is why I don’t like camping) all you do is hop in the canoe with your cooler and your boo, and you’re good to go!
I saved the best for last! Road tripping is one of our favorite past times. We met when I was touring, Levi was my sound man for years, and most of our married life together has been on the road. We love to just drive, listen to music, and talk about our dreams. It doesn’t matter if it’s driving for 2 hours around town, taking the back roads home, or taking a 20 hour road trip home to see our family… when we’re on the road, that’s when we feel like US. BUT in order to make this work you have to instill one very crucial rule… NO CELL PHONES. It doesn’t work if one of you is driving and the other is riding shotgun scrolling IG. NOPE. Not gonna fly! You gotta go all in on this one and really live it up!
